1 Kings 19:13-14

Text:  1 Kings 19:13-14

Intro: In chapter 19 of the book of 1 Kings, strange events unfold in the life of Elijah. All the people and false priest met on Mount Carmel and in that showdown victory on top Carmel all the false prophets were killed and the rain fell. Jezebel swears to kill him.  Then Elijah, full of pride becomes discouraged and defeated. He ran to the wilderness and prayed to die. Then went to Mount Horeb to seek a word from the Lord.

1.  IT INVOLVED A NEW COMMISSION  (1Ki.19:15-17)

"What are you doing here, Elijah?"

A) A Commission of Promise - Elijah is told to return to Israel through Syria. There, he is to anoint 2 kings and a prophet. This was an encouragement to the man of God!  The Lord is faithful, He will forgive you and He will use you again.

B) A Commission of Peace - He is to anoint Jehu to be the king over Israel. This meant that Ahab’s reign of wickedness would be coming to an end. This is God's promise to Elijah that he will outlast his battles!

2. IT INVOLVED A NEW COMFORT (1Ki.19:18)

A) The Comfort of A Kindred Spirit - There are others who will stand with him. He is given hope and encouragement. (Heb. 4:15-16)

B)  The Comfort Of A Knowledgeable Savior- Elijah is reminded again that he is serving a big God. God knew all about him, his problems, his enemies and where the solutions were. God knows where you are, and He knows what is happening in your life. ( 15:3) (Heb. 4:13)

3. IT INVOLVED A NEW COMPANION   (1 Ki.19:19-21)

A)  They Enjoyed Fellowship - God gave him a man who was like minded. These were men who could fellowship together.

B).  They Enjoyed Friendship - God knew that the burdens Elijah carried were too heavy for him to bear alone, so He gave him a friend.

Prov. 27:17 says, "Iron sharpens iron; so a friend sharpens a friend."
